Nov. 2, 2008 - 2008 Olympian, 2008 USA Olympic Trials winner, and 2008 USA National Champion Matty Reed won in dominating fashion the 2008 Escape to Bermuda Triathlon. Reed, who was third in the race last year, added yet another race victory to the 2008 season. Reed has won 6 high profile races this season and finished 5th at World Championships in June.
“This is a great topper to my season,” said Reed. “ This race is fabulous, with a great course and great people. It is the end of a very long and heavy race schedule and I am happy to win here today. I am especially happy with how I ran today.”
Shortly after winning the Olympic Trials, Reed was faced with the daunting challenge of having to earn the USA a third Olympic spot in 4 weeks with 4 races on 4 continents in May. Reed closed out the 2008 season at 14th in the world, and the top ranked American male in the world.
“I have shown myself and world that I can win and be consistent. I am now looking forward to a few weeks at home with my family and friends and am excited for 2009.”
Reed will close the season this Saturday in San Francisco at the Treasure Island Triathlon, the final leg in the USA Haul to the Great Wall series. Reed has already secured the series win by his wins at the 2008 Olympic Trials and the 2008 National Championships.
Reed will open his 2009 season defending his title at the Miami International Triathlon mid-March.
